Sevenoaks Academy 48 - Canterbury 7
20 Nov 2006
The Sevenoaks Academy side delivered their best performance of the season before a large crowd to defeat Canterbury 48-7. The impressive back row of Luffingham, Hill and Barnes dominated and gave the continuity of play for some flowing Rugby. Flyhalf Barber was at the centre of most of the action and notched a hat-trick of tries and conversions before half time. Whiting added another score but Oaks did not have things all their own way. Canterbury pressed hard to get back into the game and would have scored but for some tremendous tackling from Barnes and good close defence from the forwards. Trailing 26-0 at the break they came out strongly and closed the gap when scrumhalf Tewkesbury scored under the posts. The Oaks forwards started to play a little loose with insufficient bodies hitting the rucks and mauls but Walker re-established the momentum when he ran a quick penalty from inside his own half. He was brought down short of the line but Hill scooped up the loose ball for the try. Woods and French both forced their way over from short range as discipline was drained from Canterbury. The final move produced a tremendous try when after several phases inside their own half Barber wrong footed the defence and sped off. He was brought down on the 22 and the Oaks forwards piled in to produce quick ball. Woods re-launched the back line on the openside where Robinson slipped the final inside pass to Luffingham for a scored in the far corner.
The Sevenoaks Academy entertain Rosslyn Park at the Paddock next Sunday in the national Colts knock-out Competition with kick off at 1400hrs.
