Clean Sweep for Senior Sides

19 Feb 2008

Week ending the 9th Febuary Roundup

This weekend saw our senior sides achieve an unprecedented clean sweep, with four victories out of four on Saturday and a triumph for the Academy on Sunday.

The 1st XV played 70 minutes of the best rugby seen all season to chalk up a 26-3 lead away to Tunbridge Wells, before giving the Oaks supporters collective heart failure by conceding three late tries, eventually holding out for a 26-20 success.

New skipper Jamie Tinker led the Extra 1sts to a 17-12 win over Old Dunstonians to keep alive their chances of a high finish in the competitive Invicta 2 league.

The A XV continued their march at the top of the Mid Kent and E. Sussex A league with a 43-5 win over Tunbridge Wells, while the B XV won a close but enjoyable friendly with Snowden Colliery (played at Whitstable – don’t ask!) by 16-14.

On Sunday, an outstanding forward performance saw the Academy run out 13-12 winners against a physically larger Sidcup side, having come from 0-5 and 5-12 down and despite missing 2 conversions and 4 penalty attempts. Most of our team was from the U17 age group, which bodes very well for next season.

On Saturday the 1st XV hope to keep their momentum going with the visit of Old Colfeians. Last year the fixture produced an exciting 18-15 victory for the Oaks, who will be hoping for a repeat performance.
