National Colts Knock Out Competition

17 Sep 2006

Hove 23 v Sevenoaks Acadmey 15

Sevenoaks Academy suffered from a lack of personnel as they failed to hang on to a first half advantage away at Hove. The home side were gifted a three point penalty from the kick-off but Oaks were inspired by the impressive workrate of flanker Luffingham. Whiting scored after Barber had broken the defence running a quick penalty and further chances were created by Walker. Had the side been more in tune more scores would have come but support was lacking. Hove were fortunate to pull one back when a mis-kick was recollected and caught out the cover. The Oaks backs looked more threatening and Ellis scored when Oaks finally put several phases together. Scrum-half Peters was enjoying a fine performance until he suffered a nasty fracture to his arm at the bottom of a ruck. Barber slotted a penalty at for a  15-10 lead but the side could not fully reorganise with no specialist scrum-half on the bench. In fact the large amount of replacements fielded by Hove left them fresher. Their eigthman scored from a 5 yard scrum to level the game. Stokes had an effective game on the wing and covered well in defence. A Hove attack from a turn-over was halted short but 3 points came from a penalty. The result could have gone either way until the dying minutes when Hove took advantage of a scrappy line-out and scrambled a score in the corner
