Sevenoaks Rugby Under 9s at Crowborough Festival, Sunday 5th November 2006

which was a well organised and strong tournament featuring full “A” team squads from some of the strongest clubs that we face. The uphill struggle was made even harder when the squad lost a key player through ill health on the day. In spite of this, the boys equipped themselves extremely well finishing runners up in the plate competition.
It was a difficult start to the day, opening against eventual tournament runners up Tonbridge Juddians who fielded a full first team and ran out victors by 3 tries to nil. The second group game against Kent Cup holders, Old Elthamiams, resulted in a narrow 1-0 defeat following a much improved performance. The boys drew the final group game 1-1 having dominated the match, the try scored by the excellent George Wheadon.
Finishing 3rd, Sevenoaks entered the plate competition where they beat East Grinstead in the semi-final by 2 tries to 1 on a golden try, scored by Jack Ingamells, the first having been scored by the outstanding Tom Cantlay. And in the plate final some tired legs were eventually overcome 3-1 by a strong Cranbrokk side, Sevenoaks suffering from just one or two too many missed tackles. Cantlay was the try scorer once again. Special mention to some committed tackling during the day by Harry Knox in the centre and Tom Oldroyd on the wing.
Squad:
Harry knox, Tom Cantlay, George Wheadon, Jack Ingamells, Louis Ingamells, Sam Thompson, Tom Oldroyd, Alex McCann, Will Yates, Kipp Popert, James Moore.
