Worthing B Festival
The B team get going!
An U7's B side were invited to attend the very popular Worthing B Rugby Festival on Sunday. With the sun shining throughout the day, there was some excellent rugby on display throughout the day.Our first opponents were a very strong Worthing side who forced a couple of errors early from an Oaks side who were a little slow to get inot their stride. Worthing took a half time lead of 3-1. Oaks came back in the second half with excellent running from Daniel Cherny and Finn Mathias but Worthing won 5-3.
Up next were Cobham, Oaks took the game to them with Will Jones getting a couple of tries ealry on and Freddie Lane also getting on the score sheet in the first half. Some great tagging from the team, especially Sam Tow and Alex Hayward ensured that Oaks were up 3-0 at half time. A closely contestd second half saw Jones rounding off his hatrick with a superb run through the Cobham deffence and Robbie Stoney getting on the score sheet.
The final game in the pool was against Blackheath. A closely contested game with neither team giving any ground. A good move down the moiddle started by Louis Stone passing the ball wide to Thomas Hayward to score in the corner. Sevenoaks defence held srong and forced the error. Zak Emmings tooks the ball from his own line and went on a run through the Blackheath defence to score a fantastic try. Blackheath came back into the game late on in the second half to nothc up a coouple of tries and end the game 2-2.
Oaks were through to the Plate final against Brighton. Again a very closely contested game with both teams competing hard.
At half time the score was 1 - 1, with all to play for Oaks ran at the Brighton defence and took a 2 - 1 lead. Brigghton then came back to make it 2 - 2. With the last play of the game Oaks were unlucky not to be awarde a try, the ball being judged as dropped and not touched down. Brighton posession, the next try wins the game, Brighton switch the ball from left to right catching Oaks a little flat footed and scoring a superb try in the corner.
Oaks received runner up medals and huge applause from the other teams and coaches for some fantastic rugby and for being great sportsmen throughout the day.
