Old Colfeians Festival

Oaks unlucky in Final!
After having had a couple of tournaments cancelled this season, the U7's attended one of the biggest festivals on their calendar.  With 20 teams in their age group attending, we were in for a long day of rugby.

We were drawn against some pretty tough opposition in our pool, but 7 Oaks rugby skills shone through as they powered their way through with Ellie Chitty bursting down the wing getting a hatrick of tries in one game, great solo tries from the speedy James Norris and some excellent passing moves being finished by the busy William Jones. Also in the thick of things were the industious Findlay Holden and Theo Geake. In the pool stage we scored 26 and only conceded 10 tries thanks to some fantastic tagging especially in one game when Theo Brown became a one man defence tagging everyone in sight.

Here are the results of the pool games:

7Oaks  7     Old Alleynians(2)     3
7Oaks  7     Beckenham            2
7Oaks  6     Westcombe Park(2) 2
7Oaks  6     Blackheath (2)        3

The whole squad played fantasic rugby and were superb sportsmen, good solo tries along with some excellent passing and deffending.  Comfortably winning their group by a clear margin.

We were drawn in the semis against a very strong Blackheath (1) team who showed quite a bit of resiliance early on but 7Oaks' unrelenting pressure paid off and we won 6 - 3.   With a couple of excellent Solo tries from the jinking Jonty Wines and James Norris who both also tagged solidly throughout the day.

In the final, we were up against a very strong and well organised Wetscombe Pak side.  Having gone into a 2 - 0 lead early on, they came back at us to make it 2 - 2 at half time.  Louis Green took the game to Westcombe Park, running in 3 tries.  Ellie Chitty again scored a fantastic try bursting down the wing to score in the corner with 30 seconds remaining to make it 5-5, only for WP to sneak in a try at the death.

All the children were amazing and gave 100% over a long day of festival Rugby.

The 7 Oaks team received a medal and took away the runners up cup - not a bad day, there were 20 teams entered in our age group, to come second shows how good a side this team is.  Only our second loss of the season - pitty it's another final!
