Crowborough Festival

Oaks go close!

Having already this season notched up wins against Cranbrook, Haywards Heath and Tonbridge Juddians, Sevenoaks went into Sundays festival as one of the favourites.
This certainly proved to be the case in their pool games, winning against Westcombe Park 5-2 and Tonbridge 6-1.
Into the Semi-final against Haywards Heath and again easing through 7-3.  With some excellent deffending in the first half putting pressure on HH, forcing them into a number of errors, Sevenoaks scoring 5 unanwsered tries.

In the final against Crowborough, Sevenoaks got off to a dissapointing start allowing Crowborough to score two easy tries and then making a couple of mistakes on their own possession.  Going in to half time, Sevenoaks had pulled it back to just one try down at 3-2.  The second half saw some great attacking rugby from both teams and the final whistle being blown with the score at 6-6.

Golden Try - Crowborough won the toss, posession theirs.  Some excellent deffending forcing the error, Sevenoaks ball.  Again some more great deffending, this time from Crowborough to force the error, Crowborough ball.  And so it went on, both teams having a further 2 opportunities to notch up the Golden try.  Finally, Crowborough manage to get the ball out wide and slide into the corner for a try.

All 8 players in the squad played fantastically well, were congratulated by our hosts at the medal presentation for their rugby skills and sportsmanship right through to the end.  Special mentions to, William Jones (cpt) great straight running, and great tagging, James Norris amazing speed and scoring almost all of his tries from his own tryline, Louis Green, great straight running, solid tagging and always there at the breakdown, Jonty Wines (clearly ready for contact 2 years early) hounded the attacking teams all day and showed some great determined running in attack.
