U16s start with impressive win
Sevenoaks U16's new season got off to a winning start when they travelled to Ashford on Sunday.
Oaks showed their intent from the start with the forwards securing quick ball to release their potent three-quarters culminating in a well taken try in the corner by winger Norton, swiftly followed by a further touchdown by the impressive Beale at centre with Shirtcliff converting. Oaks' defence, however, was tested to the full as a resolute Ashford side refused to lie down before the Oaks pack set up Hadi at No8 to crash over with Shirtciff adding the extras just before half time for a 19-0 lead.
The 2nd half began with flanker Hunt suddenly finding himself in space 50 metres out to outstrip the defence to further the advantage to 24-0. The visitors’ defence was finally breached when the home pack drove over for a well worked unconverted try before the Oaks forwards replied in kind resulting in a debut score for prop Vincent.
Ashford stretched their opponents to the end to secure a deserved final touchdown for a final 29-10 scoreline.
