Sevenoaks (5) v Beckenham (19)

16 Oct 2005

Two late Beckenham tries left Oaks U16s unlucky losers in their first home match of the season at Knole Paddock on Sunday.

Two late Beckenham tries left Oaks U16s unlucky losers in their first home match of the season at Knole Paddock on Sunday. With six players unavailable because of County commitments, a weakened Oaks side fought hard and contained Beckenham for much of the match. Both sides had scoring chances and both defended strongly in a first half that ended 0-0 and this remained the score until the last quarter of the match when Jake Forrest broke through the Oaks defence to score the opening try. Oaks rallied and a fine team move ended in a try for hooker Marcus Dupreez to score in the left corner.

Oaks then turned up the pressure, but Beckenham held them off and it looked like it was going to end 5-5 until Jake Fox scored again for the visitors with 3 minutes left to play and at 12-5 down, Oaks again rallied to attack.

But with just a minute left, Jamie Henwood went over again for Beckenham. Jack Forrest’s conversion took the score to 19-5 and left Oaks wondering how they had lost a match that only 5 minutes earlier had looked there for the winning.
