Sevenoaks 15, Cranbrook 5
07 Feb 2010
Sevenoaks produced their best display of the season to overcome a determined Cranbrook team who have had the upper hand in recent years. Both sides started brightly and were committed to playing open rugby. The Cranbrook backs attacked at speed and were met by resolute Oaks defence. In attack, Sevenoaks were regularly able to put together several phases of play. From a breakdown in the Cranbrook 22, the Oaks moved the ball wide along the back line to put in right wing Luke Wooding for the first score in the corner. Given the nature of the game, Cranbrook responded quickly with a flowing move of their own which resulted in a try in the corner for their left-winger. For the remainder of the half, both teams attacked but without adding to the 5 – 5 scoreline.
In the second half, the Oaks began to exert greater control over the game that resulted in a penalty award. Ben Woodmansee coolly converted the opportunity to put the Oaks three points ahead. The victory was secured when Oaks scored their second try. From open play, the Oaks attached the Cranbrook line and with a huge overlap, Rob Walker kicked wide for the undefended corner. Ollie Crouch raced onto the kick collecting the ball on the bounce without breaking stride for an unopposed score. Woodmansee converted to make the final score 15 – 5.
