Oaks so close in Kent final

Glorious weather greeted the Sevenoaks and Blackheath teams as they took the field at Aylesford Rugby Club in a repeat of last years final.

The match that followed provided compelling entertainment for the large and vociferous crowd. Both sides tried to move the ball at every opportunity. Each thrust was met by solid defence from both sides. The first score went to Blackheath midway through the first half. A series of pick and drives ensuring they took a 5-0 lead.

Oaks fought back swiftly. After a sustained period of pressure and several rapier thrusts from fullback Owens , Saunders cultured right boot reduced the deficit to 5-3 by half-time.

The second half produced another 30minutes of intense and at times ferocious rugby that belied the age of the players. Excellent displays from the entire Oaks pack, and solid defence from their backs ensured the contest remained in the balance till the final whistle. However despite their best efforts Oaks couldn't achieve that extra score to bring the cup home to Knole Paddock.
