Ashford Tournament

Oaks cruise through to final

Sevenoaks U16's will face Blackheath in a repeat of last seasons Kent final after winning through the preliminary tournament at Ashford on Sunday after scoring a total of 14 tries with a defence & discipline that conceded no points.   

In the initial pool stages they despatched Canterbury 10 - 0, Sidcup 17 - 0 & Dover 20 - 0 to set up a quarter final win over Colfians 17-0. A tense semi final saw them prevail 14 - 0 over Beccehamians the highlight of which was a  textbook rolling maul that resulted in the final touchdown to seal the match.   The forwards were generally dominant & monopolised the scoring with the Oaks player of the day, the outstanding openside flanker Will de Smith contributing 6 tries followed by Josh Pettitt (3), Laurie Vincent (2) & Jasper Thompson with threequarters George Beale & Charlie Nohre adding one apiece & Dominic Saunders adding 4 conversions in difficult kicking conditions.   

The final in 4 weeks time to be staged at Aylesford is keenly anticipated where Oaks plan to better last seasons runners up title.   Squad - Cooper,Thompson, Vincent, King, Wagstaff, Hadi, Medhurst, Hunt , De Smith, Pettitt, Walker, Lonnergan, Jones,Shirtcliff, Saunders, Beale, Nohre, Ross, Goodhew, Tan, Smith, Owen.
