Maestro Beale orchestates top performance

Sevenoaks U16 34 East Grinstead 3

For the 2nd successive week Sevenoaks u16's eventually recorded another comfortable victory when they entertained East Grinstead on Sunday.

Despite again fielding a depleted backline due to skiing soirées the Oaks pack were always in the ascendancy & despite some scrappy 1st half play  Ross opened the scoring up in support from a scrum pick up, drive & off load from No 8 Pettitt. The visitors replied with a penalty after an off side discretion before Saunders touched down & converted, again benefiting from a forward drive for a half time 12-3 lead.

An unfortunate injury to an East Grinstead prop resulted in the game being transferred to an adjoining pitch & uncontested scrums. This change of venue however appeared to galvanise the home side whose threequarters with the introduction of Beale in the centre at once began to produce more fluid rugby with openside flanker De Smith having an outstanding game up in support of virtually every move.

A try for Beale after straightening the line was followed by lock Hadi popping up in the centre who subsequently galloped across the line from the 22 to ease Oaks into a comfortable lead. However a succession of technically conceded penalty offences by the home side followed which in a closer game could prove crucial . Fullback Owen & Roberts on the wing  scored trys 5 & 6, both long range efforts to record a 34-3 win with Saunders adding 2 conversions.
