Sevenoaks U16 15 O Colfeians 10

23 Nov 2008

Oaks better battling Colfes

Sevenoaks u16's entered unchartered territory when they travelled to play Old Colfeians for the 1st ever meeting between the 2 sides on Sunday.

It soon became apparent that Oaks had a battle on their hands when failing to boss the breakdown against a strong home pack, quick 1st phase possession was at a premium & their defensive organisation was tested  to full where flanker Bennett was to the forefront & Saunders territorial kicking was invaluable. From a quick tap penalty on the half way line Oaks were indebted to a strong 40m break by Nohre in the centre who beat several defenders to touch down under the posts for Saunders to kick the extras, adding a penalty soon afterwards for a 10-0 halftime lead.

The hosts however stormed back & after a period of forward pressure & missed tackles their winger was released to score the narrowest of corner flag tries. This reversal appeared to galvanize Oaks who immediately stormed back into their opponents 22 & after a series of forward drives winger Foley squeezed over to extend their lead. However the last quarter belonged to Colfe's who although scoring another well worked try in the corner to set up an exciting finale could not break the visitors defensive line again as Oaks battened down the hatches for for a hard earned victory between 2 well matched, committed but sporting sides.
