Sevenoaks 43 v Aylesford 15
04 Feb 2007
Sevenoaks traveled to Aylesford this Sunday to face a large and aggressive Aylesford side in the return leg of a fixture that saw our hosts shade the victory by 2 points last November at Knole Paddock. True to form 'Oaks made their usual slow start and a powerful Aylesford pack pushed over for a try within 2 minutes of the start. The conversion took them to a 7-0 lead. Oaks
began a fight back to put pressure on the Aylesford defence and at the 6 minute mark Oak's captain Crane crossed the line in the corner to reduce the deficit to 2 points. Aylesford retaliated with an unconverted try after 15 minutes to extend their lead to 12 points to 5. Having been rudely awakened the Sevenoaks backs then enjoyed a period of excellent service from their hard working forwards which allowed them to produce a display of free flowing rugby that resulted in tries for Brown and Turvey and a half time score line of 12- 17 in favour of Sevenoaks.
Immediately after the break Sevenoaks moved the score to 12- 24 courtesy of a fantastic 50 metre jinking run from Weeks and excellent support running from hooker Barry who adroitly finished the move under the posts. Spark then slotted the conversion. Aylesford threw their forwards in wave after wave of attack in an attempt to cross the Oaks' line but were thwarted by a determined defence who prevented the try but conceded a penalty in front of the Oaks' posts. The successful kick took the score to 15-24. From that point on Sevenoaks produced a performance that effectively kept Aylesford pinned in their own half and under immense pressure. The last 20 minutes saw a further three superb tries scored by a strong, fluid and intelligent Oaks' side. Lock Gordon started the final demolition of Aylesford's aspirations for an unbeaten season with a a try in the corner and the death knell was sounded by two scores form utility back Spark who then converted both his tries to take the final tally to 15 points to 43 to Sevenoaks.
