Oaks go Clubbing

On the back of last weeks impressive performance against OEs Oaks travelled away to Blackheath hoping to continue an impressive run. Blackheath immediately put Oaks under pressure up front where Metaxas J.Ingamells and Hickson did well to hold things together as the huge Blackheath front row turned the screw in the scrums. Oaks hardly touched the ball in the first 5 minutes but they defended well and kept Blackheath at bay. Oaks gradually settled and Lyne in particular began to threaten from the left wing. After 8 minutes Oaks seized an overthrown Blackheath lineout and Conor Smith surged forward, quick ball was put down the line and Ben Adams scorched over for the first try. Oaks had to wait until the 17th minute for the second try when a better scrum gave Skinner the chance to pick from the base and charge through the heart of the Blackheath defence. He was pulled down a metre short but Louis Ingamells had supported well and squeezed over to make it 10-0.Johnson added the extras for a 12-0 half-time lead. The second half saw Oaks up the tempo -Skinner and debutant Gibson combined well from a strike against the head by Carter and good passing put Adams in for his second. With 13 minutes on the clock Oaks took a quick penalty-Knox saw there was no one covering and his well placed kick ahead was gathered by Adams who fed the omnipresent Skinner who ran through for a well-deserved try. At 26-0 Oaks were beginning to play some great rugby. From the kick off Gibson took the ball and made good ground. Quick hands fed Johnson who ran powerfully before a perfectly timed pass fed winger Callum King who raced in from 50 metres. Oaks were determined to finish on a high and with a scrum on their own 5 metre line the attack was launched as Vorster and Knox shaped to kick before unleashing the back line where Adams took full advantage to go the length for a spectacular try and his 3rd of the day. Final score 36-0 and a great performance after a difficult start to the match.
