It's 3rd time lucky for solid Oaks!!
It was a case of third time lucky for Sevenoaks U17s as they won their first of the 3 finals they have qualified for to become Kent Champions. In the
previous 2 years finals they have narrowly lost out.
In a hard fought match against local rivals Maidstone, Sevenoaks started
well camping in the oppositions 22 and exerting pressure which led to a
series of penalties. Despite hitting the post with the easiest of the lot,
Saunders struck two beautiful penalties to put the Oaks into a 6 nil lead.
Maidstone battled back and using their powerful no 8, put together a series
of attacks that eventually led to a try, duly converted.
Turning around at 6 - 7 down Sevenoaks showed lots of composure and
resilience which eventually led to another penalty. Despite defending the
line for a few minutes, the Oaks fought there way up the pitch and after a
series of thunderous drives, Thompson charged over, again converted by
Saunders. This cup is just rewards for all the hard work of this exceptional
group of players, the coaches and management and of course the full support
of the parents.
This squad now travel to their next cup final - the National Plate against
North Walsham, next Sunday, 28th March. Support welcome.
