Resilent Oaks through to final..
being at their best. These knock out tournaments are made up of very short
matches which bring a lot of tension. Owen continued his scoring streak with
the solitary try against Beckenham to seal the first victory 5 nil, followed
by a 10 nil victory against old Elthamians , courtesy of a try from Beale
and a conversions and penalty from Saunders. In the QFs, a mishit penalty
from Saunders was all the side could muster against a very determined Old
Becs, where Sevenoaks played half the match with 14 men, due to a yellow
card.
In the semi final, old foes Bromley, as always provided very stiff
opposition. King, making a welome return, scored a try early in the match,
but just on half time Bromley scored a converted try to go 7-5 up, The
Sevenoaks pack, minus captain Pettit who was injured in the QF, had driven
Bromley back from a lineout some 40 metres, before spilling the ball in
midfield only for the Bromley winger to score a length of the pitch
breakaway try. It could've got worse immediately after the restart, but for
a try saving tackle from scrum half, Shirtcliff tracking back. Sevenoaks,
showing all the experience of recent wins and showing great belief,
eventually won 12-7. In the second half some concerted pressure, led to
second row Johnson, crashing over from short range, duly converted by
Saunders.
The final is against Maidstone on 21st March at Aylesford RFC.
Next Sunday, the U17s aim to get to their 3rd final of the season, when they
play Camberley at home, 2pm kick off. Support welcome!
