Sevenoaks Academy 17 Ashford 15
09 Nov 2008
Sevenoaks struggled to stay in touch during the first half with Field scoring from rare possession to make it 15-5. The Ashford forwards showed their intent with a huge drive from the first line-out but the Oaks defence around the loose phases remained just good enough.
The dynamic Ashford hooker scored the first of his two tries with a strong run but their number eight was held up twice over the line by winger Walker. A straight forward open-side attack gave Ashford their third score just before the break but half-time was some turn-around.
The Oaks forwards emerged a different unit and suddenly the Ashford heavyweights could not match the intensity. McCorry knocked the stuffing from his opposite centre in defence then glided round him on a 30 metre break to feed Kedge with a scoring pass.
Oaks bashed away through both forwards and backs but only took the lead with 10 minutes to go. After a sustained spell of attack Peters collected a loose ball and burst past two defenders to score under the posts. Field slotted the decisive conversion.
