Disappointing league campaign ends in defeat
Kent
Under 18 League. Sunday 1st March.
Sevenoaks entertained Folkestone in the final League game of the season and enjoyed a lively contest. Sevenoaks had plenty of possession and territory throughout but were frustrated without converting pressure to points. Kedge made some impressive early breaks but Folkestone were determined in defence and closed down the open space he normally exploits. An early kick ot at goal slipped wide from Field and at crucial moments ball was lost with a turnover.
Naismith and Palmer were at the leading edge of many forward drives and Colgrove excelled in every department. However, Folkestone drew first blood late in the half after a burst from the flyhalf set up a scrum under the posts. Their speedy winger was put away on the blindside and scored in the corner.
The second half mirrored the first. Plenty of effort from Oaks which deserved reward but Folkestone visited the home 22 twice and came away with a penalty and a further try. At the other end a kickable close range penalty was run through the hands and not converted and a tremendous break from Field should have yielded a try but the final pass was blocked. The Folkestone defence held firm until the closing minutes when Palmer touched down from a driven line-out.
