Early setback in Kent U18 League

Sevenoaks U18's started aggressively against Beccehamians in the first round of the Kent U18 League and, after putting together nine phases, Field's penalty rebounded from the posts. An intercept pass allowed Beccs to break-out and from their brief spell in the Oak's 22 the scrumhalf scored from a quick penalty. The pack produced plenty of possession with Barry and Naismith dominating but the ball was not quite quick enough or clean enough for the backs to profit.

Eventually Weeks produced a fine break from halfway but was tackled close to the line. Beccs killed the ball and Field converted the penalty. Oaks took the lead when Turvey and Barden-Edwards drove back from the restart yielding another quick penalty.  More points should have been registered early in the second half but pressure was not rewarded. Several Oaks forwards were distracted by a bit of argie-bargie and gifted a score after a turnover in defence. Field responded with another penalty but Beccs pulled away again when their sniping little scrumhalf wriggled through for a try.

Oaks seemed doomed when the hooker dropped a goal from a free-kick but pulled back to within a score after Palmer produced another rampant surge. He was taken-out illegally and won a penalty try. Oaks controlled the dying moments but missed shifting the ball to one huge overlap and eventually ran out of time.
