Pic of the Week
A tough, physical battle against East Grinstead was always on the cards. And, despite not being the biggest forward on the field, Will de Smith, as usual, managed to punch above his weight.
It was easy to predict that league-leaders East Grinstead would provide a physical test but no-one was expecting the vicious headbutt that knocked out Ian Collins and earned their flanker a straight red card. Ian will be out for 3 weeks with concussion – let’s hope the disciplinary panel ensures justice is done.
That aside, this was a highly entertaining game and a much better performance from Oaks, looking to improve on a 53-15 defeat suffered in the away fixture. In the event, Oaks led for much of the game and came close to causing a major upset. Tries from Matt Dodd and veteran prop Mark Ridout, plus 11 points from the trusty boot of Jonny Barber, left East Grinstead pleased to scramble the ball out of play in the 80th minute to secure a 21-26 victory. It was a performance based on solid defence and strong scrimmaging and the lads will be hoping to take their improved form into next week’s equally tough challenge against second-place Charlton Park.
The 2s also enjoyed an excellent afternoon, sealing victory against Old Elthamians by a single point in a thriller at the Paddock.

Yup, he did it again. Another try and another fine all round performance from winger Matt Dodd secured the bubbly once again. Where do you put it all, Doddy?
